Sandvik MB672 Bolter Miner | New Generation Longwall Mining Equipment | China Coal Expo 2025
Sandvik Showcases New MB672 Bolter Miner at the 21st China International Coal Mining Technology and Equipment Exhibition
Beijing, October 28–31, 2025 — At the 21st China International Coal Mining Technology Exchange and Equipment Exhibition, Sandvik unveiled its latest MB672 Bolter Miner, featuring advanced bolting technology designed to boost production efficiency, enhance operational safety and ergonomics, and reduce overall operating costs.
Developed as an upgraded version of the proven MB670-1, the MB672 is purpose-built for longwall mining applications. As the underground coal industry continues to embrace automation and digitalization to improve safety and efficiency, Sandvik is driving innovation in bolting automation—marking a significant step forward toward fully automated ground support processes.
Innovative Features and Enhanced Performance
The MB672 is equipped with Sandvik’s Cutronic® fully automated cutting system, ensuring stable, precise, and highly efficient cutting operations. Under consistent geological conditions, this technology can significantly shorten mine development cycles, improving productivity while reducing equipment wear and extending machine life—ultimately lowering the total cost of ownership.
The machine also features an optimized ergonomic operator platform with dual-height working modes, offering superior adaptability to different operating conditions and improved operator comfort.
Pioneering Automation in Ground Support
Based on Sandvik’s proven integrated cutting and bolting frame design, the MB672 allows simultaneous cutting, ground support, material loading, and conveying. This represents a key step toward bolting automation, enhancing both production output and safety performance in underground mining operations.
“More than 30 years ago, Sandvik pioneered the bolter miner concept. Since then, we have delivered over 500 units worldwide, reinforcing our leadership in this field,” said Uwe Restner, Vice President of Sandvik’s Underground Continuous Mining product line. “The new MB672 sets a new benchmark in bolting automation, paving the way for faster, safer, and more autonomous mining operations.”
